An all-international jury, comprising judges from Brazil, Canada, China, Japan, Greece, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey, was called upon to decree the awards. In four intense days dedicated to tasting the 671 samples in the competition, they rewarded the ‘olive oil excellences 2023/2024, the fruit of the delicate work carried out by the world’s EVO companies.
The numbers of thie year’s competition are surprpsing, reveales Antponio G. Lauro, president of the competition, especially considering the sever crisis that hit the olive sector in the last two years. Despite the mild contraction in the number of partecipants – Lauro remarks – We had nevertheless a lower partecipation than the original forseen, compensated by the high quality of the EVO oils and condiments in competition.
As mentionted, here the detailed list of the 486 medals awarded, seprated into precious metals, gold and silver. Of the 185 samples submitted in the competition (representing 27.6% of the oils entered), Italy was awarded the highest number of medals (139 Gold and Silver), followed by Turkey, with 102 samples and 77 medals in total, Greece with 88 samples and 60 medals, and Brazil with 69 products in the competition and an impressive 63 medals awarded and the highest success rate (over 90%).
